The Nook Tablet, which runs Google’s Android 2.3x Gingerbread operating system, has declared war on Amazon’s Kindle Fire. Nook fired the very first shot when Barnes and Noble announced at an event in Ny City this morning its new Nook Tablet, a far more robust version of B&N’s popular Nook Color e-reader. The new Nook Tablet comes using a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, which is twice the RAM of the Kindle Fire. It sports a 7-inch, laminated IPS “Vivid View” LG display, using a 1024×600 resolution and weighs just under one pound. Another piece to battle the Kindle Fire the very fact that|is always that} the Nook Tablet has 16GB of internal storage, which is more than that relating to the Kindle Fire, and can be expanded yet another 32GB via a microSD card slot. It also comes pre-loaded with Netflix and Hulu Plus. The announced cost is $249, $50 more than the Kindle Fire.
Amazon fired back today and announced it also has Netflix, Pandora, too as a quantity of other apps. This shortens this list of advantages that Nook claims it has over the Kindle. Nook still includes a small advantage since it offers Hulu Plus plus more storage, but not likely enough to produce it definitely worth the extra $50.
The Kindle Fire can come with many different apps. These apps include Facebook, Pandora, Netflix, Rhapsody, Twitter, Comics by comiXology, the Weather Channel, and select games from Zynga, EA, Gameloft, PopCap, and Rovio. The Kindle also supports more book formats (Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively, DOC, DOCX, Audible), even though the Nook only supports EPUB, PDF, DOC, TXT, DOCM, and DOCX.
“We started talking to app developers everywhere your day we introduced Kindle Fire, as well as the response may be overwhelming,” Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle. “In addition to around 18 million movies, TV shows, songs, books, and magazines from Amazon, we are excited to offer customers a large number of apps and games to choose from on Kindle Fire–from Pandora and Rhapsody to Facebook and Twitter to Netflix, too as popular games from EA, Zynga and several other top game developers. And this really is merely the beginning–we’re adding more apps and games every day across all categories.”
Which tablet would you want? I am aiming toward the Amazon Kindle Fire. I have the 2nd Generation Kindle now and love it. I am hoping that the Kindle tablet due in early 2012 will use a camera and become more across the lines of the iPad2. I am reluctant to consider the Nook due for the precarious position of Barnes & Noble filing bankruptcy. What about you? Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet?
